THE PROJECT
Space tourism is still a long ways off, but it’s not hard to imagine that someday, tourists will visit the natural geological landmarks of other worlds much like they tour the Grand Canyon, Mount Everest or Ayers Rock. Each of these great tourist destinations needs a classic retro travel poster to entice visitors. Until the day people settle off world and make their own destinations many of these may be the places that people will want to travel too. I hope that these posters can inspire people to think beyond our world to the limitless possibilities of the Universe.

THE SULFUR SANDS - AMALTHEA
Amalthea is the third moon of Jupiter in order of distance from the planet. It was discovered on September 9, 1892. Amalthea is in a close orbit around Jupiter and is within the outer edge of the Amalthea Gossamer Ring, which is formed from dust ejected from its surface. From its surface, Jupiter would appear 46.5 degrees in diameter. Amalthea is the largest of the inner satellites of Jupiter. Irregularly shaped and reddish in colour possibly due to sulfur dust from IO, it is thought to consist of porous water ice with unknown amounts of other materials. Its surface features include large craters and ridges.

Fantastic work making this poster. The vivid red color easily caught my eye and I knew I had to take a look at this. At first, I was not sure I actually had ever heard of Amalthea, but it had to be of some importance for it to be also referred to as Jupiter V. Not surprised the reason it to be red because of the amount of sulfur coming from Io, but I figured that Amalthea is an asteroid for it to be irregular in shape -- I originally thought it was a natural satellite, similar in shape to the likes of Callisto or Europa, but I found a photograph of it.
